The Great Pyrenees, like many modeern dog breeds, has a complicated and long origination story. The breed gets its name from the Pyrenees Mountains, located in Spain and France. It is thought to have been there since about 3000 B.C., where it worked very well with common shepherds protecting their flocks from wolves, bears, and other predators. This history neatly explains the most obvious personality traits of Great Pyrenees dogs. Very loyal, large, and a whole lot of mountain-adapted fur.
